Type and Color: Phobia Posters

For this design project, I created a series of three posters based on three chosen phobias: Trichophobia, the fear of hair; Trypophobia, the fear of irregularly spaced holes; and Amychophobia, the fear of scratches.

My intentions for this design when deciding the composition was to create a series that falls within the realm of uncanny valley. Uncanny valley is the phenomenon wherein the characters created bear such a close resemblance to human beings that the level of arousal or unease is heightened. Thus, I chose to use colors that resemble body parts or shadows. I used glow and inner shadows on InDesign to further enhance the uncanny sensation of the posters. They served to add depth to what are seemingly harmless, 2D iterations.
